This book came out of that fact, but it is not a document of loss, nor an elegy for vision. It is an examination of looking itself, and what happens when seeing can no longer be taken for granted. Krijno has never treated photography as a reliable window onto the world. His images are built, painted, cut, copied, obscured, rearranged and photographed again. A photograph becomes an object. An object becomes an image. Something familiar becomes strange, then strangely familiar again. We are living through a period of constant uncertainty and upheaval. Both nature and culture seem to be showing signs of disruption. Have we perhaps over-adapted to a world that cannot give us what we are looking for? There is a growing need for images and symbols that remind us of the beauty and connections that still exist, however fractured things might appear. MURK comes out of this uncertainty.&nbsp; There is no straight line through the book, no single narrative. Images echo one another, return in altered forms and contradict themselves. The process is intuitive and physical. Krijno builds, destroys and rebuilds, allowing things to go wrong. An image is pushed until it begins to lose its certainty. A photograph has always carried the promise of evidence. But it can only ever give us a fragment. The rest is filled in by memory, imagination and expectation. Krijno is interested in that gap between seeing something and knowing what it is. He describes image-making as a private, physical practice, closer to prayer than production. A way of paying attention, of trying to make sense of a world that cannot always be made sense of. There are no answers here. Only questions about photography, perception, the times we are living through, and what might still be possible.&nbsp; The images are not trying to explain the world. Conceived under Francoism as a model of industrial and social order, the neighbourhood embodied an ideal of progress that extended beyond the factory into everyday life. Rooted in the artist’s personal relationship with both Ana M. and the territory, the project explores what remains outside this official representation. Bringing photographs, objects and domestic traces into dialogue with institutional and industrial records, the research constructs a counter-archive whose associative logic is shaped by Ana M.’s experience of schizophrenia, with ambivalence sustaining the coexistence of contradictory meanings. As the industrial landscape undergoes demolition and transformation, other histories emerge: the documented but unmarked mass graves of Francoist repression, the domestic labour that sustained The project developed through the study of minerals, rocks and other specimens preserved in the museum collection, which became the starting point for a series of images made using historical photographic processes. The photographs explore the encounter between two surfaces capable of recording traces: the surface of the stone and the photosensitive surface of the photographic print. Moving between geological, photographic and astronomical forms of time, the work considers the apparent stillness of both stone and image. What appears fixed is instead the result of processes unfolding across radically different scales: pressure, erosion, sedimentation and mineral transformation on one side; exposure, chemical reaction and the gradual alteration of the printed matter on the other. The project brings together these different temporalities without attempting to reconcile them. Photography becomes a way of observing matter as it changes, while the museum collection provides a context in which objects formed over immense periods of time are brought into relation with the much shorter duration of human observation. Stones have always slept beneath the open sky reflects on photography not simply as a means of representing matter, but as another material surface in which time, light and transformation leave their The cliffs of Ortona become the site of an observation that registers the coexistence of erosion and persistence, disintegration and resistance, within a balance constantly exposed to its own redefinition. Landscape emerges not as a fixed or measurable form, but as a temporal materiality in perpetual transformation, in which every configuration retains traces of its constitutive instability. Attentive to the geomorphological nature of the site, the photographic image renders perceptible a stratified temporality in which different scales of time overlap and interfere with one another. Rock surfaces, shaped by the action of the sea and atmospheric agents, emerge as material archives, sites of sedimentation where the territory retains the traces of the processes that traverse it. Erosion thus appears not merely as a physical phenomenon, but as a critical device that unsettles the very notion of stable, permanent, and completed form. Landscape reveals itself as a transitional condition, continually reconfigured through the interaction of processes of accumulation, subtraction, and collapse. Terrestrial movements and cosmic cycles introduce a further shift in scale, expanding the relationship between territory, time, and representation. Images drawn from the astronomical writings of Galileo Galilei and from Donato Rossetti’s Sistemi del Mondo d’Aristotile, Copernico e Ticone introduce an additional layer of interpretation, in which the very notion of&nbsp; “revolution” acquires physical, geological, and cosmological meanings simultaneously. The attention to the experimental laboratory space — itself the subject of the photographs — does not merely represent the phenomenon, but reorganises its conditions of intelligibility through processes of scaled reconstruction. Wave motion is thus segmented, discretised, and rendered analytically accessible through experimental setups that isolate individual processual components, translating the continuity of the phenomenon into operational sequences. Photographic images escape the distinction between documentation and abstraction, operating as hybrid surfaces. Sediments, water, and miniaturised elements constitute a visual field in which experiment, model, and landscape no longer appear as separate categories, instead assuming the form of transitional states within a single material and semiotic configuration. What is revealed is not the representation of a given landscape, but rather the set of operations through which it is progressively constructed as an object of observation and knowledge. The image thus becomes the site of a continuous negotiation between physical phenomena, technical systems, and interpretative practices, making visible the mediating processes that structure the production of scientific knowledge. The landscape takes shape through a constellation of devices, measurements, and visualisation procedures that progressively articulate its conditions of legibility and interpretation. The project adopts a perspective that moves across different sites of evidence production — from sediment analysis laboratories and hydrodynamic simulation facilities to digital environments for monitoring and modelling — bringing together heterogeneous scientific practices that contribute to the contemporary construction of the coastal landscape. The work also includes a series of images devoted to the sea surface itself, where wave motion conveys the force of the natural phenomenon in its most immediate and observable form. This dimension of direct recording is placed in dialogue with the spaces in which technological and infrastructural systems make the phenomenon intelligible. A broader reflection on the relationship between image, science, and environment emerges from the project, which examines the role of photography through the lens of techno-scientific research. Representation no longer coincides with the simple recording of reality, but with the elaboration of epistemic processes through which landscape is transformed into a measurable and governable sur- face. Coastal erosion thus becomes a cultural and cognitive framework through which to observe the ways contemporary territory is analysed, simulated, and administered.
